One of the main requirements for safe operation of electric systems is the faultless switching of electric power flows. Electric power as well as the degree of interconnection and thus the electrical short-circuit power increases, requiring new components, which meet the demand for safety, technical efficiency and low costs.
The AIT Energy Department provides a development infrastructure, focusing on the development of small, efficient and cost-effective components. Here, the concerns are primarily lying on the development of new switching technologies by combination of mechanical and semiconductor switches in hybrid switching systems, as well as the development of mechanical switches by using modern simulation methods for the simulation of the switching process.
