Faults in stator windings result in both asymmetries in the winding and short circuits in the different portions of a winding. The mathematical models used by the Vienna Stator Monitoring Method (VSMM) can detect these fault effects clearly and distinguish them from asymmetries in the supply voltage which lead to similar characteristic signals.
