The Vienna Eccentricity Monitoring Method (VEMM) was developed for the detection of rotor eccentricities in electrical machines. This method utilizes the calculated instantaneous power. In the where case rotor eccentricities exist, characteristic harmonic components and fault-specific electrical power pulsations are generated. These speed dependent pulsations are detected and analysed to determine the existence of an abnormal eccentricity.
In order to increase the robustness of this method, a specially developed algorithm is used which reliably derives a fault indicator from the rotor eccentricity and imbalance signatures, independent of the motor load.
